Technique and Composition Workshop with Pau Aran

Aterlier is a space for experimentation and craft creation where to develop technique and creative identity. In this intensive workshop, Pau Aran will share his vast experience as a dancer, choreographer and teacher, developed over years of collaboration and work with artists and choreographers such as Pina Baush, in her company Wuppertal, among others.

Also inspired by the Jooss-Leeder method, Pau proposes a work focused on the compositional factors of dance: energy, rhythm, space and form. Through play, pleasure and body narrative, with improvisation and composition exercises, each participant will be able to find their own expression, discovering their creative potential, beyond their physical aptitudes. The dialogues, processes and creative material that emerges will be shown in a presentation at the end of the workshop. Atelier is an invitation to self-sufficiency, but also to a collective creative process to discover, question and expand limits.

Pau Aran Gimeno

Pau (Barcelona, 1981) is a professional dancer currently living and working in Germany. He started dancing at the age of eleven and soon studied all different styles: Latin American, standard, jazz, modern and classical ballet. He completed his studies at the Conservatorio Profesional de Danza ‘Mariemma’ in Madrid and later at the Folkwang Hochschule der Künste in Essen, before joining the ensemble of the Tanztheater Wuppertal – Pina Bausch in 2005, until 2020 as a permanent member and later as a guest.

Since 2013, and alongside his career as a dancer, Pau creates his own pieces and presents his work in Germany, France, Italy, Chile, Spain and Japan. In 2020, he began his collaboration with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui which continues to this day. Pau has also danced for other choreographers such as Theo Clinkard, Alan Lucien Øyen, Antonio Ruz, Stefan Jovanović and Jorge Puerta Armenta.

His current motivation is to continue developing the expression of his art through body language, focusing on the creation and pedagogy of contemporary dance. The search for beauty, movement and their interest in the poetics of contemporary dance-theater are represented in their projects. Committed to sharing the knowledge and experience previously acquired with the next generation of artists, Pau simultaneously encourages the self-discovery of his students and collaborators. Combining the passage of time and the transitory nature of dance, merging heritage and tradition, with the future.
